A birthday card

Its not the things that can be bought, that are life's richest treasures, It's just the little "heart gifts" that money cannot measure. A cheerful smile, a friendly word, a sympathetic nod, are priceless little treasures from the storehouse of our God.
You give precious gifts in a kind, thoughtful way, Your smile brightens the cloudiest day and the gifts that you give wo'nt be put on the shelf, they'll be kept in the heart for you give of yourself.

"Junk or Jewel"

The old sculptor made his way to his home outside the village center. On his way he passedby the great white mansion of the plantation owner who, with his field workers, was felling one of the age-old trees. The old sculptor suddenly stopped and called over the wall with a note of interest."What will you do with those discarded stumps of wood?" The ownwer replied, 'These are good for nothing but firewood. I have no use for this junk." The old sculptor begged for a piece of the 'junk" wood and with care litfed the knotted tree trunk to his shoulders. With a smile of gratitude, he staggered into the distance carrying his burdonesome treasure. After entering his cottage, the old man placed the jagged piece of tree in the center of the floor. Then, in a seemingly mysterious and ceremonious manner, he walked ariund what the plantation owner had called "useless junk". As the old man picked up his hammer and chisel, a strange smile pierced his leathered face... The following morning, the sun found the sculptor asleep on the floor of his cottage, clutching a beautiful sculptured bird. He had freed the bird from the bondage of the junk wood... Weeks later the plantation owner came by to visit. When he saw the bird, he asked to buy it- offering whatever price the sculptor might name. Satisfied that he had made an excellent bargain, the gentleman walked away, hugging the newly acquired treasure.... the sculptor thought " Junk is the eyes of the beholder. Some look, but others see." Today there are many individuals whose lives are like the old tree. Trapped within them is a beautiful bird of potential that may never fly. Society , like the plantation owner, sees nothing in them but a useless, worthless person on his way to the garbage heap of life. But we must remember that one man's junk is another man's jewel. Seven habits of highly effective people (adapted from Covey)

1. Act responsibly and in a positive manner
2. Always keep the end goal in mind.
3. Prioritise by attending to first things first while learning to say yes and no if needed.
4. Strive to develop a win-win agreement
5. Seek information in order to understand issues and then communicate it back to be understood. Respond with understanding rather judgement.
6. Open the minds and hearts of others to new options, new possibilities, new alternatives and new committments.
7. Make a list of things you can and will do to sharpen your saw by involving all aspects of humankind. (physical, spiritual, social and emotional)

In memory of Jonah- " Footprints on the Heart"

http:\\www.networkedblogs.com\blog\restorying-your-lifeSome people come into our lives and quickly go
Some people move our souls to dance.
They awaken us to a new understanding
with the passing whisper of theirr wisdom,
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon'
They stay in our lives for a while.

strength to face a challenge

This morning we had a bridal shower for a young lady and the fun, sharing and caring brought such strength to the bride to be. She felt a strength to embrace the new life she will enter into. I guess that's what's important, strength in caring for others.

Why" Restorying" rather than restoring

The Exodus story can be used as a means of  " Restorying" ones life. This story gives vivid imagery of people believing that if they leave Egypt and the slavery that Pharaoh had them in, they will be leaving a chapter of bondage and entering a new chapter that will allow them to change their story. I believe that as we explore the bible and its influence , we to will " Restory" our lives. Happy blogging!

Wow... I'm blogging

This is my special place where we can dream together about many things, join me on this wonderful journey in 'Restorying your life"
